The Brief & Challenge

Our clients in Oxford were undertaking a comprehensive home refurbishment and wanted to maximise their available floor plan. The existing, traditional half-turn timber staircase felt very restrictive, blocked natural light, and dominated the hallway. They required a modern architectural feature that would seamlessly connect three levels while introducing a sense of open-ended light and space.

Our Architectural Solution

To transform the property’s layout, we designed, and produced a stunning double-flight spiral staircase. By opting for a spiral structure, we significantly reduced the footprint of the stairs, freeing up valuable square footage on both the ground and first floors.

We paired a robust, industrial matt black powder-coated steel structure with warm, premium solid maple treads. The contrast between the clean architectural metalwork and the natural, pale timber grain perfectly complemented the home’s contemporary aesthetic.

As it was the main stair in the property we ensured the spiral had a 800mm clear width to comply as a category B staircase.
