Project of the Month – January 2024
Open Staircase Burnley
To kick off the new year in style we head to Lancashire to have a look at a double flight straight flight stair in Burnley.
The stairs were for a 3 storey new build property being constructed a few miles outside Burnley. A large stairwell was created in the middle of the building ready to house two straight flight staircases running up one above another. The new building was modern in design with a lovely feature window to the front. This staircase was the central focal point in the property and the first item on view upon entry so had to stand out and create an impression.
Our model 500 staircase was selected with its sleek steel stringers and timber treads. Our client opted for the flat top and flat bottom stringer option powder coated dark grey. Oak treads were chosen to match the doors and these were supplied with an L shaped down-stands to the front to ensure the gap between the treads remained less than 100mm. Frameless glass panels were supplied for the side of each stair which was also provided around the openings at first and second floor levels. On the landing levels the glass panels were bolted to our steel apron which neatly covered the joists.
Although we suggested a handrail, our customer was keen to keep things as open as possible and instead choose small stainless steel clips to link and support the glass panels.
The end result was magnificent and the stairs really suited the property. Our client sent these pictures shortly after moving in.
