We’re no strangers to creating custom staircases, but this project came with a special twist.
The client wanted a spiral staircase that complemented the charm of his historic listed manor while featuring bespoke spindles designed to match the existing ones in the house. The staircase leads to a glazed stargazing room at the top of the property, offering breathtaking views of the rolling Surrey hills.
To keep things in harmony with the home’s character, we skipped stainless steel—despite its popularity—and opted for oak centre column barrels that perfectly match the treads, spindles, and balustrade, tying in with the property’s extensive oak features.
To maximize light flow into the room below, we spaced the spindles as far apart as regulations allow and chose open risers for added openness. The result was a stunning spiral staircase that delighted the client so much, he ordered another one for a different wing of the house.
