Just south of Bordeaux, France, our client purchased a property to retire to. Due to its age, planning permission was granted to demolish it and build a new house. The new build featured an airy, open, and light style, and they wanted a bespoke spiral staircase to match. Most of their fixtures and fittings were sourced from the UK, including their model 76 spiral staircase, which we delivered directly to the site.
The spiral’s design and rotation were fairly standard, but the large opening in the floor above meant they wanted it positioned in the middle. This required a 2m x 2m square platform at the top, connecting the column to the floor’s edge. As this was an unusual size, we brought in a structural engineer to ensure the supporting bracket could handle the load over the span.
The result was a stunning, floating transparent floor!
