External Spiral Staircase

Our selection of external spiral staircases is custom-made to fit any UK location. Crafted from mild steel, they are tailored to the specific height and diameter needed. Customers can choose from various tread and balustrade designs, available in galvanized or powder-coated finishes.

Suitable for domestic settings and small to medium commercial ventures, they can serve as access to roof gardens or act as fire escapes from office buildings.

Each staircase features a central steel column with bolted-on, tapered steel tread arms. Typically, a top platform aligns with the upper floor level.

As they are bespoke, comprehensive technical drawings are produced for each staircase to ensure accurate rotation and height. The manufacturing process takes approximately 8-9 weeks following drawing approval.

Custom Made Diameters

Tread Options

The tapered steel tread are can be supplied with various steel plates welded on the top or left completely flat to take a client supplied finish such as timber decking or millboard. There is even the option to create a steel frame for glass treads.

Balustrade Infill Options

For safety and to support the handrail an infill is require to prevent falling. Please be aware that in the UK for domestic applications, horizontal rails are generally not permitted being considered climbable.

External stringer

An external stringer is a piece of steel that wraps around the perimeter of the spiral, covering the edge of the treads. It added a swooping, twisting feel to the flight. This is either supplied as a structural 8mm piece of mid steel which is bolted directly to the treads or a 1.5mm steel cover piece which gives a similar appearance but it less cost.

Balconies

The external spiral staircases come complete with a square top platform. This can be enlarged to incorporate a larger platform or even a substantial balcony area.
