Although we’re very used to designing and supplying custom staircases, the client for this project approached us with a unique request. They wanted to achieve a modern spiral staircase, that was sympathetic to the décor of his historic listed manor house, whilst also using one-off custom made spindles to match the existing staircases in the property.

Enclosed Spiral Staircase

The staircase accesses a heavily glazed viewing room at the top of the property that looks out on to the stunning rolling hills of the Surrey countryside.

For this project, we opted to avoid using stainless steel which, although very popular, felt would be out of character with the property and too contemporary in style.  Instead, we chose oak centre column barrels that match perfectly to the treads, spindles and balustrade which, together, reflect the wider use of oak in the property.

In order to take the opportunity to maximise the flow of light in to the room below, we carefully positioned the spindles to allow for the maximum possible spacing within building regulations. We also selected open risers allowing the maximum possible gap between treads.

The project was a great success and, as you can see, this unique spiral staircase looks truly stunning. The client was so pleased that he went on to order a second spiral staircase for another wing of the property.
