Project of the Month – July 2024
Spiral Staircase Newbury
Providing access to a mezzanine level is very common application for a spiral staircase. Whether its a small snug above a bedroom, a raised floor above a garage or a large industrial mezzanine floor within a factory, we have a solution for each setting. The focus of this month’s project involved a property in Newbury with a large vaulted ceiling above the kitchen. This kitchen was part of a large extension and included a large deck area above which provided access to two new upper rooms. Due to its space saving properties, a spiral stair was selected to gain access and this was positioned to one corner of the room.
With the two rooms upstairs and the fact that the deck area was a decent size, building control insisted in a 1900mm dimeter of spiral. This required a 2000 x 2000mm hole in the mezzanine. We were in discussion with the client for many months before the spiral was actually needed so were able to advise on the opening size required.
Our client opted for our model 71 spiral staircase which is a custom made model specifically made for the application. It is a stair designed to be the focal point of a room and is supplied with hardwood treads and handrail. There are multiple option of timber to choose from with oak, beech, ash and maple the most popular. In this instance, our client selected oak with curved glass panels forming the balustrade.
A large square platform was provided at the top of the staircase to connect it to the mezzanine level. Balustrade was required on this mezzanine level and this was supplied with with the same stainless posts, glass infill panels and circular oak handrail as the stair.
These pictures were pinged over to us once all the work was completed.
