October 2022 – Spiral Stair Peterhead

Our client was building a new property in Longside near Peterhead in Scotland.  A small balcony and platform were required to the front of the property directly alongside and above the front door.  We were involved at quite an early stage prepared a set of drawings for the job before construction on site had actually started.

As the property was in Scotland we had to ensure the clear tread width was in accordance with BS5395 as well as having a clear tread width of 900mm minimum.  We helped our clients engineer prepare the SER certificate by submitting various calculations for the spiral and platform.

The actual spiral itself was 2050mm in diameter and our customer opted for the non slip perforated steel treads and the simple 10mm spindle surround.  The platform was 2880 x 1050mm in size and was supported by the centre column and an additional leg whilst being bolted back to the building.  The spiral was supplied fully galvanised and powder coated black.

Our client sent these pictures to us shortly after they moved into the property.
