Wooden Spiral Stair Somerton
Whilst many of our clients opt for a modern and contemporary feel to their properties (and their staircases), we also have those looking for a more traditional feel.
Once such client was based in Somerton, Somerset & was completely renovating a barn directly next to their period property. The barn was to provide an elegant dining & sitting room area and was to be connected directly to the existing property.
To the end of this vast new room, a small balcony was constructed to connect to the building behind. A wooden spiral stair was required to access this small mezzanine level. Our client was very keen to maintain the traditional feel to the room which was being paneled with oak and floored with stone. There was another conventional staircase nearby & it was decided to match the design of this in a spiral form.
The model 71 spiral staircase was chosen but not in its default, standard form. The spindles & handrails were created to match the other staircase & a 40mm outer stringer was shaped to the outside of the spiral creating a lovely swooping effect.
The entire staircase was supplied in unfinished oak & the client’s joinery team treated the timber with the same product used to finish adjacent wall paneling.
The end result was stunning. A wonderful space to entertain and a great example to show we cater for all customers. Those looking for a modern feel, and those looking for something a little more traditional.
