This grand spiral staircase was supplied to a customer in Aberdeen as the main access to the upstairs living space in a refurbishment, so it needed to be large enough to meet regulations.
The Model 71 spiral staircase is available up to 2200mm in diameter, and this one measured 2100mm.
We enlarged the lower two treads to create a striking entrance to the flight and added special L-shaped treads to comply with the 100mm riser gap rule.
The client’s spacious upstairs walkway required landing balustrades for safety, but instead of matching the staircase spindles, we used glass infill panels to allow more light through. These were secured between brushed stainless steel newel posts, side-fixed to the floor.
