Our customer was based on the North Sea coast near Montrose and was carrying our some refurbishment works to his property. This involved adding a balcony to the front of the building to take in the views across the filed. This balcony was to have an easy access to the garden below.
A spiral staircase was called for with its minimal footprint and its sculptural qualities. This was supplied in steel with a galvanised finish to ensure it could withstand the battering from the North Sea. To add a nice swoop to the stair and to soften its appearance a thin external fascia piece was added to the outer side of the stair.
Brief
- Provide a space saving access to the garden from the new balcony
- Ensure it was large enough for regular use
- Make sure it can withstand the harsh conditions of the North Sea
- Compliant with Scottish Building regulations
Summary
- A spiral staircase was supplied never taking up more space than its outer diameter
- 2000mm diameter in total to ease of use
- Fully galvanised to withstand and protect against the elements
- 900mm clear tread with and riser /spindles gaps less than 100mm to comply
