We were approached by the architect and client who we constructing a new property on the banks of the estuary in Fareham.
The house featured a modern, block-like design with a utilitarian, industrial style.
Apart from a small footpath to the front or arriving by boat, the only access was from an elevated road at the rear, level with the second story. The client needed a double-flight spiral staircase to link this road to both levels of the house.
While fairly standard in concept, this project was unique because the staircase would be set within a concrete shaft. Constructed from industrial galvanised steel, it would be topped with a glass enclosure offering uninterrupted views of the sea.
