Our customer was extending his property in the hills above Cosham, Portsmouth. Space was tight and the main access into the building was through a driveway that entered an enclosed basement. The basement was huge and had sufficient space for several cars as well, an office and a gym.
The Brief
Our customer required:
Access to a large basement area from the living space above
Made from transparent material as there was no natural light in the basement
The spiral needed to feel modern to match the style of the property
Diameter / footprint needed to be small
The spiral stair needed to combine elegance with practical functionality for the basement-to-living area access.

The Solution

Laminated glass treads to maximise transparency
Open risers, to allow light to pass down through the stairwell
1300mm diameter to keep the minimise the space
Stainless steel handrail and column to reflect light
Stainless steel riser bars to ensure the gap between the steps remained less than 100mm
