Project of the Month – January 2022
Spiral Staircase Liverpool
January project of the month – Spiral Staircase Liverpool.
This month’s focus is on Formby, a small coastal town just north of Liverpool. Our customer was an architect extending the rear of his property and adding and office and a gym. The extension was two story and given the main house staircase was a distance away, a separate stairway was required to link the levels. A spiral staircase was selected to sit in the corner of the extension and span from ground to first to second with exits at each level.
Our client had already decided on the diameter when he made contact, so we just had to narrow down the specification. Something light and modern was required and amongst the quotations we supplied was the model 71 spiral staircase with brushed stainless column and timber treads. Together we finalised the balustrade and tread type and the orientation before getting things drawn up. Multi story spirals are notoriously difficult to plot when there are certain restrictions on each level but luckily there were two open sides on the upper floors.
The spirals were 1900mm in diameter with treads and handrail supplied in varnished oak. The centre column and the posts were in brushed stainless and were complimented with curved glass panels keeping things light and open.
