Shop Spiral Staircase Islington – December 2023 

As we approach the end of the year we have one more project of the month to present.

Although we mainly focus on the domestic market, we do get involved with smaller commercial projects and this beauty Salon in Islington is a perfect example.   Our client was renovating a 3 Storey terraced building along the high street and adding treatment rooms to each level.  As is often the case in London, space was at a huge premium and a spiral staircase seemed the best solution to access all three floors without taking up too much floor space.  As the stair was to be used by both the public and staff the building control officer wanted a category C spiral.  This meant an 800mm clear tread width (2000mm diameter) spiral with a centre column handrail.  The client opted for walnut treads and an external steel stringer wrapping around the perimeter to give it more gravitas.  As the spiral was in a commercial setting with no children present, horizontal bars were permitted and these were supplied in stainless steel to match the handrails.  A little matching landing balustrade was supplied at each of the upper two levels to protect the opening.

In this setting a spiral was ideal.  The opening in the floor was only 2100mm square at each level saving our client valuable floor space at each level.

This model was from our versatile custom spiral stair range.  Although this custom opted for walnut treads we can supply in any timber or even glass.
