Staircase Project of the Month – August 2022
Open Staircase Newbury – Model 500
Our client was converting a Methodist chapel into a modern dwelling in Leckhampstead near Newbury.
The ground floor was completely open plan so a custom made, visually striking stair was required as the stair was prominently on show. The stair was a large half turn model 500 staircase with zig zag stringers and oak treads which run up against the wall alongside the stained glass windows. Laminated glass balustrade ran up the inner side of the flight which was topped with an Oak handrail. this balustrade continued along the landing level on the first floor. l The structural wall was actually set 300mm further back from the finished inner wall and this detail required us to work alongside the structural engineer to create special steel fixing plates under the landing levels. The end result was perfect and complimented the new floor and the décor.
