Project of the Month – April 2024
Office Spiral Stair Southampton
A construction company located between us and Southampton required a couple of spiral staircases for their new headquarters. The office was a newly constructed traditional timber framed building which had been furnished as a modern office. The entire building was similar to a converted barn, open to the eaves with lots of timber beams on show. Offices were located on the ground and first floors. Because of the vaulted ceiling, the offices on the first floor were constructed with solid roofs/ceilings which formed small mezzanine levels. It was to two of these mezzanine levels our client wanted to access with spiral staircases.
Timber and modern was the main requirement and our customer was very quickly drawn to our model 71 range. This flight has a brushed stainless steel centre column and balustrade and solid timber treads and handrail which was perfect for the setting The building was constructed in Oak so oak made the most sense for the treads and handrail and as the application was commercial (no children), horizontal bars instead of spindles were selected for the balustrade. They were both quite small in diameter at 1500mm as space was tight.
Both models had 13 risers in total with a small triangular top platform level with the ‘mezzanine levels’. Latterly we also supplied landing balustrade around the upper levels with stainless posts and glass balustrade.
We popped in after the spirals had been installed to take these pictures.
