The Brief
This project formed part of a large refurbishment of a historic building in Midhurst, being converted into modern residential apartments by a nationwide developer. The brief was to supply a bespoke modern staircase that would maximise light and space within a two-bedroom apartment while working within the constraints of the existing structure.
The staircase needed to provide access to a bed deck / mezzanine level, comply with headroom regulations, and maintain a clean, contemporary appearance that complemented the wider refurbishment scheme.
The Solution
We supplied a straight-flight Model 500 bespoke staircase, selected for its slim steel structure and open design, making it ideal for refurbishment projects where space and light are critical.
Due to the sloping ceiling above the stair, a quarter-turn configuration was not feasible without compromising headroom. Instead, the staircase was carefully repositioned slightly into the room, ensuring full compliance while maintaining comfortable access to the upper level.
A frameless glass balustrade was installed along the mezzanine edge at first floor, providing safety without visually closing off the space and allowing natural light to flow through the apartment.
