In the New Forest village of Lyndhurst, Hampshire, we were commissioned to supply a bespoke WF floating timber staircase for a distinctive family home. It was required to access a bridge above the living space which linked two parts of the upstairs space together.
The Brief
The key requirements for the Lyndhurst project were:
A focal point staircase that wouldn’t look too heavy and dominate the hallway
Solid hardwood treads to coordinate with other timber features in the home
Open risers to maximise the sense of space and light
A light balustrade solution for both sides of the bridge
The design needed to balance structural integrity with an airy, minimalist profile.

The Solution
To deliver on the brief, we designed and supplied a bespoke WF floating timber staircase featuring:
Cantilevered oak treads with precision joinery, giving an almost floating appearance
Single wall stringer support, providing the strength needed while keeping the open side visually unobstructed
A large tread width and generous tread depth (going) made the stair feel grand to use
10mm toughened glass panels supplied to both side of walkway above to keep the light shining through.
These elements work together to maximise openness while creating a staircase that feels sculptural and refined.
