Our client was gutting an existing property on the stunning Isle of Skye and required a light an open staircase to access the upper floor. Together we selected the floating WF staircase which has only one stringer on the outer (wall) side with the treads on the open side suspended in place with stainless spindles.
The Brief
The staircase needed to:
Sit comfortably within a modern open-plan interior
Maintain openness without blocking views or natural light
Use natural timber finishes to soften the contemporary design
be designed as steeply as possible to fit into the small stairwell but comply with building regulations
The Solution
Our solution was a bespoke WF floating staircase incorporating:
Cantilevered timber treads for a minimalist floating appearance
Open risers, allowing uninterrupted light through the stairwell
A 42 degree pitch staircase with 2m headroom. It just fitted given the building constraints!
Wall mounted handrail to aid use of staircase
- Customer added small mini carpet pieces to each tread
