In Botley, Hampshire, we supplied a bespoke WF floating timber staircase for a contemporary new build. This staircase was designed to complement the home’s architectural lines while ensuring maximum light penetration and a visually light appearance that enhances the open interior.
The Brief
For this Botley project the client wanted a staircase that would:
Create a light, floating feel in the entrance hall
Fit within a modern design scheme with seamless material transitions
Feature solid hardwood treads that reflected the interior timber finishes
Provide a clean, minimal aesthetic, avoiding bulky structural elements
- maintain headroom under sloping ceiling
The primary objective was to deliver a stair that felt almost suspended and didn’t interrupt sightlines around the ground floor.

The Solution
To meet the brief, we designed and supplied a bespoke WF floating timber staircase with:
Cantilevered solid hardwood treads, giving the appearance of floating steps with no obstructive supports
A single wall stringer, ensuring structural strength while keeping the open side visually unobstructed
A bespoke balustrade system that blended with the surrounding architecture to maintain cohesive design language
A rise and going relationship that ensured the stair wasn’t too steep but also had sufficient headroom
The result is a staircase that feels open and expansive, allowing light to flow between floors and creating a focal point within the contemporary Botley interior.
