In Aberdeen, we were commissioned to supply a bespoke WF floating timber staircase for a contemporary home where light and openness were at the heart of the architectural intent. This project features cantilevered hardwood treads that appear to float in mid-air, maximising visual space within the entrance hall and forming a striking architectural focal point.
The Brief
For this project the homeowner wanted a staircase that would:
Enhance the perception of space in the hallway with a visually light profile
Allow natural light to flow freely between floors
Be constructed in solid hardwood to complement other timber elements in the interior
Maintain a bespoke configuration suited to the unique floor layout in Aberdeen
The staircase needed to offer both architectural impact and everyday usability without obstructing views or light.

The Solution
To meet the brief, we designed and supplied a WF floating timber staircase featuring:
Cantilevered hardwood treads with no stringer on the open side so steps appear suspended — maximising the open, transparent feel of the stairwell
A solid hardwood wall stringer, ensuring full structural integrity while keeping sightlines clear
A bespoke balustrade system designed to match the client’s interior palette, allowing light to continue flowing through the space.
Precision joinery so every tread and handrail detail fitted the unique geometry of the space
This floating design delivers exceptional light transmission and a stunning visual effect without compromising safety or durability.
