Project of the Month – March 2024
Floating Staircase Cambridgeshire
Our customer for this project lived in the village of Papworth Everard, west of Cambridge. He had never been happy with the rather drab enclosed stair that came with the house and wanted to change it whilst altering the flooring upstairs and down. He also wanted to turn it so it ascended in a clockwise motion making the best use of the space.
Open risers were a must to maximize the passage of light and the stair had to be in oak to match the new flooring. Our customer selected the WF floating timber staircase from the range which is renowned for being the model open and light design we offer. Interestingly our client opted for the heavier timber spindles instead of the normal more slender steel spindles. The stair was in a quarter turn configuration running up against the wall with the balustrade to the RHS. This balustrade continued around the opening upstairs to protect the stairwell.
The Oak was supplied in an oiled finish to blend in nicely with his chosen flooring and he opted to upgrade to have the L shaped downstands to reduce the gap between the treads to meet the 100mm gap rule.
All in all a wonderful addition to the hallway and the customer send us pictures when everything was finished.
