Project of the Month – April 2022
Floating Staircase Alton
A local destination for this months Project of the Month, the pretty village of Bentworth, just outside Alton in Hampshire.
Our client was building a new house in the grounds of their existing property. As the landscape sloped away towards the rear of the plot, the entry level and main living space was on the upper floor and our customer required a light and open staircase to access the study and bedrooms downstairs.
After several visiting to our showroom, the WF floating staircase was selected in a quarter turn configuration. As we were involved at quite an early stage we were able to tell the builders the precise size the stairwell needed to be. Oak floors and doors were being installed throughout so oak was selected for the staircase treads, stringer and handrail to match.
The USP of the WF system is its handrail which actually acts as a stringer on the exposed side. This is a little deeper than a normal handrail and has steel rods embedded enabling it to support and suspend the treads to create the floating effect.
On this project we supplied 3500mm matching landing balustrade around the opening and also a 250mm x 20mm apron around the edge of the floor.
