Spiral Staircase Exeter – Car Showroom

A stunning bespoke spiral staircase supplied as part of a new car showroom in Exeter.  Unusually the spiral stair centre column was located 4m away from the mezzanine level a very large extended platform was required.  Full structural calculations were prepared to help design the support for the platform and the fixings required.

Working alongside the main contractor and architect, the entry and exit points were established at an early stage as were the finished to the timber and steelwork.  The spiral itself had solid oak treads on a steel plate with non slip black strips across the nosing of each.  The balustrade was constructed with horizontal stainless steel bars and a stainless steel handrail.  As the spiral was in a commercial setting, a centre column handrail was included.  Glass balustrade was situated either side of the 4m walkway we supplied.  To complete the project, the spiral staircase can with an 8mm thick outer steel stringer which wrapped around the perimeter of the flight really emphasising the swoop of the spiral.
