Project of the Month – June 2022
Model 71 Spiral Staircase – County Antrim
Something we get excited about is a client who has the space to do justice to a custom made staircase. Space where the stair can admired and appreciated in a setting that enhances the flight and the property itself. Far too often we receive drawings where an architect / developer has shoehorned a staircase in place and designed it as steep as the regulations will permit. We we believe this is a wasted opportunity.
Our client in this month’s focus had just the property to ‘show off’ the staircase. Based on County Antrim, Northern Ireland, our client had double height barn to renovate. He was keeping the main living area completely open with a double vaulted ceiling and mezzanine level above. The spiral was to join to the two levels and after spotting our model 71 spiral online promptly flew over to see us. We are quite near Southampton airport so were able to pick him up to show him the showroom.
The spiral was designed with a 1800mm diameter and consisted of 14 risers to reach the 2800mm high mezzanine level. Oak treads and handrail were selected and curved glass panels were chosen to keep things open and light.
Of course the available space meant the spiral could be photographed from multiple angles to really give a good impression of the stair in it’s wonderful setting.
