Modern Stair Berwick-Upon-Tweed
The vast majority of quarter and half turn staircases are fitted against a wall which provides a good fix for the stringers. This project in Berwick upon Tweed had no wall at the back so we hat to extend ‘legs’ down to the ground to take the load. Instead of a basic square or rectangular vertical support at the corners, our client wished to have something with a little more design hence the curves that can be seen in the pictures above. The lack of walls also mean glass was required to both sides of the staircase which was topped (on the internal side) with a brushed stainless steel handrail. This balustrade was continued at first floor level around the open void.
This client won our annual photo competition with these photos and won the latest iPad!!
