Project of the Month – June 2023
Glass Staircase Twickenham
South West London was the location of this month’s project focus. An unusual 3/4 height staircase with glass balustrade.
Our client lived in a detached townhouse in Twickenham and was extending the rear of the property. The level of this new extension was between the current ground and first floor levels and access was required to both without loosing too much space. The builder was to form a number of concreate steps from the new extension down to the ground floor. Above this a stair was required to access the doorway to the first floor and a side mezz level whilst maintaining the required headroom above the new concreate steps below.
We designed a small quarter turn staircase which became a platform at the upper level, extending to reach the doorway and the little mezzanine area. We told the builder where to start and finish the concrete steps to ensure there was sufficient headroom. Although the pictures suggest otherwise we can assure you there was indeed 2m between the flights!
Given the property had a modern feel, the client opted for our model 500 staircase. This has slim steel stringers, solid timber treads and commonly frameless glass balustrade. She choose oak treads, factory stained to walnut and asked for the steel stringers to be powder coated RAL7039. The frameless glass balustrade also ran across the small mezzanine area.
All in all a great result and the client was thrilled.
