Project of the Month – October 2021 (bonus)
Floating Staircase Salisbury
Salisbury in Wiltshire was the location of this new built being constructed by our client.
The staircase was situated in a long hallway, away from the front door and ran partially alongside a window. The idea of a normal closed riser staircase was dismissed fairly early on as it would have blocked far too much light resulting in a dull and dark hallway.
Our client visited the showroom and quickly identified the WF floating timber staircase as the ideal solution. Its construction with a single wall stringer and open risers would maximise the passage of light and the available materials tied in with the proposed flooring and decor.
The stair was constructed in solid oak with square newel posts and the specially designed handrail to allow for the spindles to support the floating steps. The wall stringer was formed with a zig zag top and flat bottom and was factory painted white to blend in better with the wall and enhance the floating feel. To comply with the 100mm gap rule between the treads whilst maintaining the passage of light, our client opted for small glass upstairs to the rear of each tread sat in a small grove.
Our client sent these pictures to us shortly after moving in.
